The Tenth House

Career, Public Life, and What You Build for the World

The Tenth House

What It Is

The tenth house governs career, public reputation, legacy, and the role you occupy in the wider world. It is the most publicly visible area of the chart: what you are known for, what you are working toward over the long arc, and the kind of authority or standing you build across a lifetime.

What It Represents

The tenth house is often simplified to “career,” but it is more precisely the question of what you make of yourself in the world’s eyes. Not the day-to-day texture of work (which belongs to the sixth house) but the vocation: the calling, the contribution, and the reputation that accumulates over time.

Public image and achievement live here. So does the relationship to authority: the authority figures who shaped your sense of what it means to be capable and recognized, and the authority you develop yourself as you move through life. The tenth house describes what you aspire to build, what you are willing to sacrifice for it, and what you hope to leave behind.

The Midheaven sits at the top of the tenth house in most chart systems, reinforcing this house’s connection to the highest publicly visible point in the chart. In Z13’s whole-sign system, the MC may or may not fall within the tenth house sign, but the tenth house’s thematic territory remains consistent.

Legacy is the tenth house’s longest view: not the reputation of the moment but what the life, in total, amounts to.
